Native Union MM01H Moshi Moshi Retro Handset for iPhone, iPad, Blackberry and Mobile Phones

I was so excited to be getting this, but so disappointed when it arrived.
Plugged it into my iPhone and tried to make a call. It made strange clicking noises at a regular interval, that were both quite loud and very annoying. I made a call with it and the person on the other end thought I was taping the conversation because of the clicks they could hear. Ughhh. Not good. Ended up returning it for a refund. Don’t know if it was just a defect on that particular unit or if that is common, but I was not impressed.

doesn’t feel like a toy, it has a fairly long cord, it plugs in to my iphone without any special adapter. when i get a call i just pick it up and press the button in the middle inside of the handset and it answers and hangs up the same way. i got the black one.
i got this because i don’t like the way the iphone 3GS feels when i hold it to my head, my arm gets a little numb on long calls and the iphone won’t stay between my ear and shoulder when i’m going thru my drawings. this phone lets you hold it on your shoulder and use your hands to work with… it’s basically like an old type phone.
there’s a thing on Amazon called a Headset Buddy Adapter: Smartphone Headset to PC Adapter – Use a 3.5mm iPhone/Smartphone Headset With Your PC, Converts 3.5mm Plug to Dual Mic/Audio 3.5mm, for Skype/VOIP that can allow it to also be used on the computer for skype calls or google voice calls, it’s a splitter that plugs in to your mic and headphone plug and you can then plug the phone in to that… people i talk to says it sounds the same as any other phone call and they sound no different on my end, it sounds just as clear as any other headset. the volume is controlled by the phone.
one idea for an option is something i can screw onto the wall to hang it on when not in use (like a regular wall phone), even better would be something to hang it on plus a little basket next to it to sit the iphone (or any phone) next to the hanger on the wall.
it was all that i expected. good stuff.

This is an absolutely delightful piece of technology. It brings a real sense of warmth and humanity to the modern smartphone calling experience. And gets you lots of odd looks when you walk around talking with it on the street.
I bought this for my wife to use with her iPhone 3GS, and she fell in love with it. Sound quality was great (for you and the person on the other end of the line), and it feels great in your hand or between your ear and your shoulder.
She upgraded to an iPhone 4, though, and it stopped working. Started hearing only a weird clicking noise on both ends. So I emailed Native Union and they immediately apologized, said it had something to do with iPhone 4 and iOS 4, and sent me us new adapter (from Hong Kong) for free. It arrived the other day, and totally fixes the problem.
I assume they’re sending that adapter standard with the currently-shipping phones, but I don’t actually know.

The Moshi Retro phone handset is a pretty cool accessory for your cell phone. It works just like you might expect: It’s a traditional retro-style handset that plugs into a standard phone headphone jack. I have the red version for use with my iPhone.
The handset itself is beautifully designed. It has a smooth, rubbery texture which feels nice to hold, but still allows a good grip on the phone. There’s also a single button on the inside ‘handle’ part of the headset, which functions as an answer/hang-up button (similar to the microphone/button thing on the special headphones included with an iPhone). The sound quality on the handset is pretty good, too. I can hear from the speaker about the same as when I’m just using the phone without any accessory. I also haven’t had any problems with people hearing me through the handset’s microphone, so that doesn’t seem to be a problem, either.
Overall I think this would be a useful product for people who find it uncomfortable to hold a regular cell phone up to their ear for a long time, but for most people this will probably be more of a fun, novelty item. This handset is also useful for cradling the phone between your head and shoulder if you need to use both hands for something, but obviously not as useful as a hands-free phone device for that purpose. I have also used this handset for video chats (on a Mac), and it works just as well as when using it for my cell phone.
