Licensing Flash Games – The Marketing Value Of Casual Games

Casual games are on the rise, and it’s no longer only young boys and teenagers playing games. A recent study showed that 76% of players on 2 of the top casual gaming portals are female, and that 47% are 50 or older. What’s more, the same study showed that 53% have an annual household income or $50,000 or more meaning that this is a demographic with money to spend!

With such an attractive target market, many companies are turning to Flash games as a way of attracting new visitors to their websites, getting their visitors to come back more often, and also to encourage their visitors to share the website links with their friends by email and social media.

While more and more companies are realising the potential for adding Flash games as a way to market their sites and brands online, the cost of developing games is prohibitive for many smaller companies. Games development is a specialist skill and beyond the grasp of most web designers or IT departments, and hiring a game development studio can run to the tens of thousands of dollars, even for a relatively simple game.

Recently however, a change in the marketplace for Flash games has started to enable even small business to benefit from this new medium. By licensing existing games, companies can quickly and inexpensively add branded Flash games to their sites, and almost immediately increase their traffic and brand awareness.

Flash games are normally licensed on a single game, single domain basis meaning that a fee is paid to have a game added to a site. This prevents the company from adding the game to multiple sites, or allowing their customers to embed the game into their own blogs and benefit from the viral marketing effect Flash games are famous for. There are however a handful of development companies emerging offering less restrictive licenses, and allowing a single license to cover multiple versions of the same game.

If you’re not already using Flash games as part of your marketing strategy you’re almost certainly leaving money on the table. While cost has traditionally been a restricting factor that is no longer the case, so why not add Flash games to your site, and start benefiting from extra visitors and increased exposure today!
